Linux Lite 1.0.4 screen shots
Linux Lite is a desktop distribution based on Ubuntu. It is uses the Xfce desktop environment, a desktop environment known to be suitable for low-end computers. The latest update, Linux Lite 1.0.4, was released just today.
It ships with Steam client for Linux, the popular game distribution platform, installed. Because of the memory requirements of Steam, don’t expect to run this edition of Linux Lite on a resource-starved computer, if you intend to play that game.
Here are just a few screen shots from a test installation.
The login screen. Why is a login required on a live system? By the way, the user name is root, with a blank password.

The default desktop. Nice wallpaper. The desktop is pre-configured with two workspaces, or virtual desktops. This is a screen shot of an installed system, not a live system.

The desktop showing the menu showing Office apps. Why are the names of the applications not used?

Internet applications. Firefox 18 is installed.

Game applications. Steam for Linux client is installed. That entry for Humble Bundle is just a link to the website.

Steam registration.

Pain Killer Hell and Damnation. Unfortunately, it is not available for my platform.

Linux Lite felt like a very good distribution. If you are looking for an Xfce desktop distribution with Steam client installed out of the box, I think it’s a good choice. You may download it from here. Read the announcement here.
