The KOffice team has announced the availability of the third beta version of KOffice 2.0, a free and open source cross-platform office suite very much like the popular OpenOffice.org. KOffice is part of the K Desktop Environment, though with a separate release cycle.
The Elisa development team has announced the release of Elisa Media Center 0.5.18. Elisa Media Center is a cross-platform, free and open source media center software application, developed by Fluendo S. A, the Spanish company also responsible for the development for the fee-based Codeina Codec Installer Service.
The Xiph.Org Foundation has announced the release of Theora 1.0. “Theora is a video codec with a small CPU footprint that offers easy portability and requires no patent royalties.” This is the first major point release of Theora, and marks an “important milestone reflecting the maturity and stability of the Theora codebase”.
Qt Software has announced the release of a Technology Preview of Qt 4.5, the next major release of Qt, which is a C++, cross-platform framework for desktop and embedded applications development. Qt Software, formerly Trolltech (acquired by Nokia in June 2008), is now a unit of Nokia.

Elisa Media Center is a media center application developed by Fluendo S.L., and this version runs under Linux, Windows Vista and XP (editor’s note: If you must run Elisa Media Center, why not do so on your favorite Linux distro? Samba, the open source file and print server for Windows clients, has been updated to version 3.2. The previous stable version was version 3.0.30, and was licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2, but version 3.2 – this latest stable release – is released under the new GPL version 3.
